Meet your Speech Language Pathologist

Hello!  My name is Kathy Nash.  I am so excited to be a part of your child's education team.  It's going to be a fun year full of learning and new adventures! I want to know all about your children, but first, I'm going to tell you all about me.  :)

I was born and raised in Pennsylvania, so you may hear my accent come out every once in a while.  Yes, Browns fans, I grew up cheering for the Steelers. Although, I choose to stay neutral between the Browns and Steelers for peace between the families during the holidays.  Growing up in Pennsylvania, I attended California University of Pennsylvania where I received my Master of Science Degree in Communication Disorders.

I moved to Ohio 13 years ago for the job of my dreams working at a specialized autism program.  I was there for a few years and then entered my way into the school system, starting at N. Ridgeville City Schools and ending up in Avon Local Schools.  This is my 9th year at Avon, and I enjoy it more and more every year.

I am married to a wonderful man, John, who is an engineer.  I have 3 beautiful children who make me proud every day.....well, almost every day. ;) My oldest, Melissa, graduated from Youngstown State University majoring in social work, but now she wants to venture back to school for nursing.  My middle child, Shawn, spent a year at the University of Pittsburgh and now decided to take some time off to find his path in life.  My youngest, Jacob, is a fourth grader who loves to play sports.  I am a fortunate lady to have such an amazing family.

We just moved into our new home in Avon this summer.  It's been a long year building it, but it was definitely worth the wait.  :)

My favorite thing to do in my spare time is spending time with my family.  From there, I enjoy reading, watching movies, running, going to the beach and yoga. I am a certified ChildLight Yoga Instructor, and I'll be finished with my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Certification in October.  Yay!!

Now that you know all about me, I can't wait to hear all about your children!

Spring Break Ideas

I hope everyone traveling over break has a safe and enjoyable vacation.  BUT some of you may be having a "staycation" and wondering what you are going to do with your children for a week at home.  The best thing you can do is maintain a schedule with your children.  Too much down time can cause your child to sit in front of the TV or play with his/her tablet all day.
This is an example of a schedule.
1.  breakfast- Make breakfast together!
2.  TV or tablet time- maybe 30 min to 1 hour
3.  game time- play a fun game (monopoly, hide and seek, hide some balloons around your home and see if your child can find them all, battleship, etc)
4.  creative time - coloring, drawing, painting, playdough
5. nap and lunch (I wish my child still took a nap.)
6. TV or tablet time- maybe 30 min to 1 hour
7. outside time (basketball, hopscotch, tag, scavenger hunt, plant a garden, go for a walk, etc)
8.  dinner time (have your child help you with dinner)

Some fun adventures!
Cleveland Botanical Garden
Great Lakes Science Center
 I-X Indoor Amusement Park
Greater Cleveland Aquarium
The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
Cleveland Museum of Art
Cleveland Museum of Natural History
The Children's Museum of Cleveland

Game time!  Go support your Cleveland teams.
Gladiators
Cavaliers

I hope you have a fun break and just spend some quality time together!  :)

Happy Valentine's Day

Valentine's Day is a day to send love to people who mean the world to you.  Don't forget about those who are not so nice.  Send them some love as well because you never know what someone is going through.  Also, take some time to think about what you love about yourself.  Follow your dreams and passions!  Live the life you have imagined.
