Summer Fun Language Activities

Language Activities for the Summer

Summer should be fun!  Forget the sit down paperwork activities when it comes to stimulating language growth.  Try out these fun language activities with your child this summer.

1.  Take a walk and talk about the sounds you hear and the things you see.
2.  Take a trip to a Cleveland beach. Let your child help you plan what to bring. Encourage your child to use his/her imagination and vocabulary by creating fun sculptures.
3.  Go have a picnic.  Let your child help you pack the basket by planning what to bring and how much to bring.  Talk all about categories (dairy, meat, vegetables, fruit, drinks, etc)
4.  Take a road trip.  How many items can you find along the way (birds, trucks, stop signs, stars, gas stations, stores, restaurants, etc.)
5.  Make a fun treat treat.  Cook with your child.  Talk about what ingrediants you need and let them pour, mix and eat!  Here is a cool website with lots of visuals and recipes.  https://www.speakingofspeech.com/cooking.html
6.  Schedule playdates to promote social skills!
7.  Read to your child!  Talk about the pictures and let your child tell you what they see in the pictures.
8.  Create a scrapbook together about your summer adventures throughout the summer months.
9.  Have fun with sidewalk chalk.  Let your child use their imagination and encourage vocabulary.
10.  Plan a treasure hunt!  Let your child pick out 5 objects and hide them for you to find.  Talk about location words and describe the objects once you find them.  Switch roles and you pick out 5 objects and let your child find them.

My favorite quote!

This quote not only applies to children but to adults as well.  Every day, I encourage children to cheer each other on, because I work in a field where children struggle with learning. When they struggle, they shut down.  What is going to help someone grow or try their best?  Encouragement
When have you been afraid to do something but someone said, "You would be great at that!"  That one sentence could change your life forever.   All of us feel down at times and need a little boost.  Today, I encourage you to cheer someone on!  Smile at someone!  Open a door for someone!  Do something to make someone grow!
