Social Stories

Social Stories are short stories explaining the Hidden Curriculum. The Hidden Curriculum is a set of rules or guidelines that are often not directly taught but are assumed to be known (Hemmings, 2000). The goal of the story is to explain the desired behavior, so it is easily understood by the child.  The story is most beneficial when you add the child's name in it. It personalizes the story and holds the child responsible for improving the behavior.
Please read the story to the child at least once a day when he/she is calm.  The more you read it, the more effective it will be.
If you would like to write your own social stories, visit Carol's website or attend one of Carol Gray's workshops.

how to be a good friend
how to be dependable
how to feel important
how to take turns
how to be helpful
how to share
how to be kind
